Editor’s Note: Watches & Wonders (formerly SIHH) has moved online and Baselworld 2020 is canceled, but that hasn’t stopped watch brands large and small from debuting their new wares. Stay on top of this year’s best new watch releases here.
“Ultra-affordable and punching way above their weight in terms of quality and value” could describe plenty of Seiko watches. Some of the most recent and compelling, however, are within the reintroduced Seiko 5 Sports collection. Initially launched with a dive-watch-style design and a ton of color variations, the line has now expanded even further with versions that forgo the rotating bezel in favor of a more traditional (and perhaps more versatile) look.
The original dive-style Seiko 5 Sports watches are water-resistant 100m, which promises sufficient durability but is a bit less than that of most proper divers. These new versions lose the dive watch pretense, taking on a more field-watch vibe, but the specs and designs remain mostly consistent. The big difference (besides the bezel), however, is a smaller diameter of 40mm. They still feature case backs that offer a view of the automatic movement inside.
Like their dive-bezeled brethren, there will undoubtedly be a wide range of variants, and there’s nothing wrong with more choices, right? Currently available from End Clothing in five color and strap options, each has a reasonable price of $275 regardless of whether you choose a steel bracelet or NATO style strap.
