The Pleasant Valley Historical Society will honor its 2019 Dons and Doñas at a Santa Maria-style barbecue from 1 to 4 p.m. Sat., Aug. 24 at the Camarillo Community Center, 1605 Burnley St.
The public is invited to the celebration. Tickets are $75.
Dons and Doñas are individuals who live in Camarillo, Somis or Santa Rosa Valley and have provided outstanding community service for the past 20 years.
The designation harkens back to early California days as the title given to community leaders. Some are members of pioneer families, others have made a difference in the community through their professional and volunteer efforts.
Over 400 people have been given the honor since the event began in 1964.
This year’s Dons and Doñas are: Beth Miller, Edy Santangelo, Lynn Decker-Mahin, Linda Ayerza, Fred Penney, Lyda Noble-Sprinkles, Leticia Taylor, Elaine Magner, Rebecca Pecsok, Felicia Schoenewald, Daniel Schoenewald and Steve Blois.
The Pleasant Valley Historical Society is a nonprofit dedicated to preserving and presenting the history of the area.
